Nokia E71 Specs

Released in 2008, the Nokia E71 is part of Nokia's long line of smartphones and comes with a variety of features, including a built-in digital camera and GPS application. CNET Reviews, an electronics review website, praised the E71 for its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, but criticized it for its small display screen and cramped keyboard.

Dimensions, Display and Power

At 2.2 inches wide, 4.5 inches long and 0.4 inches deep, the Nokia E71 is compact and lightweight, weighing 4.4 oz. Its 2.4-inch thin-film transistor screen displays more than 16 million colors at 320 by 240 pixels of resolution. A standard lithium-polymer battery, when fully charged, holds 1,500 milliamp hours of energy, providing the phone with up to 408 hours, or 17 days, of standby time and up to 10.5 hours of talk time. Compared to similar devices on the market at the time of publication, these times rank above the seven-hour average for talk time and below the 446-hour average for standby time.

Memory and Networking

The Nokia E71 comes with 110 megabytes of data storage space, 128MB of RAM and a built-in microSD card slot for up to 8 gigabytes of expanded memory. MicroSD cards, which provide up to 2GB of memory, and microSDHC cards, which offer between 2GB and 32GB, are compatible with the E71, but only up to the phone's limit. The phone connects to both the 2G and 3G wireless networks using Global System for Mobile Communications and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access technologies, respectively.

Camera and Messaging

A 3.2-megapixel digital camera gives the Nokia E71 photographic functionality, capturing images at up to 2,048 by 1,536 pixels of resolution and recording video at 640 by 480 pixels of resolution. Two photographic features, auto focus and digital zoom, give the camera added functionality. The phone supports text, photo, video and voice messages and mobile email through a connection to a Post Office Protocol (POP3) or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4) server. The E71 also supports instant messages, which consist of short text messages sent and received through an Internet connection provided by a variety of clients, such as Yahoo!, MSN and AOL.

Miscellaneous

Built on the Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 operating system, the Nokia E71 uses an ARM 11 369 MHz processor and accesses the Internet using a Wireless Access Protocol 2.0/xHTML and HTML browser. The E71 is equipped with a stand-alone GPS application and an assisted-GPS system, which utilizes a combination of cellular tower and satellite signals for navigational functionality. According to Phone Scoop, A-GPS systems are more accurate than stand-alone GPS applications. The phone's built-in media player supports several audio and video file formats, including MP3, AAC, WMV and MP4.
