All Motorola I860 phones have special unlock codes that allow them to be used on all networks. Before distribution, wireless companies program the phone with special software that prohibits the phone's use of SIM cards from other networks. The unlock code removes this restriction and allows the phone to accept SIM cards from any network. Many networks will give you the unlock code for free depending on your account standing.
Instructions
1. Enter "*#06#" to display the phone's identification number, known as the IMEI number. This special sequence of numbers is unique to each handset and is required to obtain the unlock code.
2. Contact your wireless network's customer service department and request the subsidy unlock code. Let them know you wish to use the phone with prepaid SIM cards while on a trip overseas and they will give you the unlock code.
3. Turn off the phone and remove the battery.
4. Replace the original SIM card with one from a different company and insert the battery. Turn the phone on.
5. Enter the subsidy unlock code obtained from customer service to unlock the I860 for use on all networks.
