Are Bluetooth Headsets Compatible With The Samsung Instinct

Released in 2009, the Samsung Instinct HD is part of the company's long line of smartphones, and has features that include compatibility with several Bluetooth wireless profiles or modes, such as the Headset Profile (HSP). Bluetooth-ready headsets, whether produced by Bluetooth or another manufacturer, are compatible with the Instinct HD. In addition to HSP, the Instinct HD is compatible with several Bluetooth profiles.

Headset and Hands-Free

The HSP and Hands-Free profiles provide nearly identical functionality, but through different means. The HSP profile gives you the option of placing and receiving phone calls through an attached headset, while the HFP profile gives you the ability to do the same thing, but through the Instinct's speakerphone. With a required car kit accessory, HFP also enables you to place and receive calls through a car's speaker system. While the HFP profile gives you the option of two-way stereo audio, the HSP provides mono-only audio.

File Transfer and Dial-Up Networking

The Bluetooth File Transfer profile works similarly to the File Transfer Protocol, but on a much smaller scale. The Bluetooth FTP profile gives you the ability to view and transfer files contained on another mobile device that is equipped with the FTP profile. In the early years of personal digital assistants, an infrared port served this function; these are now obsolete on most mobile devices. The Dial-Up Networking profile is also compatible with the Instinct HD.

Advanced Audio Distribution and Object Push

The Advanced Audio Distribution profile, also known as A2DP, allows the Samsung Instinct HD to send streaming stereo audio to wireless headphones that work with this technology. Similar in function to the FTP, the Object Push profile gives the Instinct HD the ability to transfer a file to another device that's equipped with the OPP. This profile is how you transfer a photo from a phone to a personal computer, or share calendar events or contact information.

Audio/Video Remote Control

The Samsung Instinct HD's Audio/Video Remote Control profile controls audio and video playback. For audio content, the AVRCP partners with the A2DP to provide a variety of standard playback functions, such as fast forward, pause, rewind and play. This profile also works with another Bluetooth profile, the Video profile, which is not included on the Instinct HD. The Instinct HD's Bluetooth options can create a personal area network, but they also give the phone the ability to establish connections with other computing devices, including a laptop, table or desktop computer.
