Stop Windows 7 From Reinstalling My Sound Driver

Windows 7 is designed to for ease of use. When you connect new hardware for the first time, the operating system will scan the Web for drivers and install them automatically. The result is a faster and more efficient computer than in previous versions of Windows. One problem can arise when you update your sound drivers and Windows 7 keeps installing older drivers, reporting that the correct drivers are not the "recommended" ones for your system. You can prevent this annoyance and stop Windows from automatically running Windows Update to reinstall the old drivers.


Instructions


1. Open the Windows "Start" menu and select "Devices and Printers."


2. Right-click on your computer's icon and select "Device Installation Settings."


3. Select "No, let me choose what to do" and then click "Never install driver software from Windows Update."


4. Click "Save Changes."


5. Open your "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."


6. Click "Windows Update."


7. Click "Change settings."


8. Click "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates." Click "OK" to save your settings.
